Panther Pond – Writing in Nature - Henry David Thoreau used Walden Pond and its natural surroundings to find inspiration for his writing. It was an ideal space to compose his work and to make connections to the natural world.  In this outdoor writing class, students will need a Writer’s Notebook, a pencil, and some comfortable walking shoes.   Princeton Day School’s 100+ acre campus, with its network of trails, woods and (yes, of course) its pond, will act as our Walden for a week of journaling, sketching, listening deeply, writing poetry, environmental activism and (yes, of course) fun! Grades 3-6, $250. Week 5

Totally (Golds)Worthy Nature Art – Creating Environmental Sculptures Inspired by Andy Goldsworthy - If you’ve ever walked around the PDS campus, you’ve seen that nature provides a number of materials you can use to create art: rocks, leaves, twigs, mud, pine needles, water, petals and more.  Andy Goldsworthy, an inspiring and inventive artist, describes himself as an “environmental sculptor.”  He uses the natural surroundings to create pieces of art. His projects are determined by the season and what nature provides him. During this program, students will create their own art by using natural materials.  We will learn about Andy Goldsworthy’s art and activism.  Students will also try to recreate one of Goldsworthy’s original pieces!  Grades 3-6, $250. Week 3
