Princeton Day School is proud to announce that Wesley Leggett '19 has signed with the University of Connecticut's Division 1 men's soccer program. Wesley is a four-year varsity soccer standout for PDS who scored a total of 47 goals and assisted on nine others during his PDS career as a forward.
In congratulating Wesley, Director of Upper School Athletics Tim Williams observes, "Wesley has been at PDS since elementary school, and being able to see him develop as an athlete and young man has been gratifying for all of us. He has worked very hard to get to this level and we are extremely proud of him."Wesley was an integral member of the 2016 NJISAA Prep State championship PDS soccer team and was a senior captain of this year's team, which fell to top-seeded Montclair-Kimberly Academy this fall in the NJISAA Prep B Final, 4-3. Among Wesley's awards are the Princeton Day School Varsity Award, NJISAA All Prep State First Team honors, and his designation by regional media outlet Town Topics as Top Male High School Athlete for Fall 2018.
As Wesley noted in acknowledging the Fall 2018 Top Male Athlete designation, "I was looking to have a big senior year; one thing I want to do with any team is to help it win. Whether that is scoring or assisting the ball or just being an overall threat for the whole team." Wesley led in scoring across the region with 22 goals this season, including a trio of three-goal games.
"It has been a pleasure to coach Wesley the past three years at PDS," says PDS soccer coach Ollie Hilliker. He continues, "Wesley is not only an outstanding soccer player, but a phenomenal young man, too. Wesley always puts his team first and is an ideal role model for younger players to look up to. Wesley deserves all of the accolades he has received so far and I can't wait to see his development continue at UCONN."
