The Class of 2019 Announces College Destinations

Seniors returned to campus in a big way yesterday for an afternoon of college destination celebrations and events, including an informative panel of five PDS alumni currently in college who shared the wisdom and advice they've gathered since heading off to their next schools. Alumni panelists were: Ryan Bremer '18 (Bucknell), Michelle Mendez-Castro '17 (Villanova), Cierra Moore '17 (Princeton), Peter Shannon '17 (University of Wisconsin - Madison) and Claire Szuter '18 (Duke). Leading an invaluable student life discussion after the student panel were PDS Board Chair Rebecca Bushnell '70, who is the School of Arts and Sciences Board of Overseers Emerita Professor of English at the University of Pennsylvania, and Elizabeth Nathanson, Associate Professor of Media and Communication at Muhlenberg College. Through the lens of their years of experience working with college students, professors Bushnell and Nathanson shared advice and tips about navigating the academic and emotional transition to college.

The afternoon kicked off with a photo of the senior class all wearing college gear from the colleges they plan to attend. Always a much-anticipated tradition, it was a sun-drenched affair at the School's outdoor amphitheater on a sparkling, late spring day -- and in typical fashion, a student or two hustled in shortly after the photo session began, much to the delight and wild applause of the senior class.

Director of College Counseling Sarah Graham observed, "I'm so proud of the PDS Class of 2019. These seniors have a broad range of interests and plan to study in some of the top engineering, humanities, music performance, architecture, and nursing programs in the country, taking the talents they have cultivated at PDS to new heights. This year, many of the colleges that our students applied to announced their lowest acceptance rates ever. Given this environment, the School is extremely pleased to report that all of our seniors were accepted to fabulous schools and had wonderful options to choose from."
