Princeton Common Ground is proud to welcome New York Times bestselling author and clinical psychologist, Dr. Michael Thompson to Princeton Day School to present "The Pressured Child: Helping Your Child Find Success in School and Life," an interactive lecture for parents, on April 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the McAneny Theater. Tickets for this free event will be available on March 6 via an email link and on the Princeton Common Ground website.
In this lecture, Dr. Thompson, author of Raising Cain and Best Friends, Worst Enemies, reminds parents that the pressure for students to excel at school and get into the best colleges has never been more intense. He will address America's performance-driven obsession with children's accomplishments and will describe the psychological journey that children experience during thirteen years in school beyond academics. Through richly detailed interviews, Thompson will illuminate the deeper psychological journey that school demands, a journey that all children must take in order to grow and develop, whether they are academic aces or borderline dropouts. Thompson will illustrate how to listen for the truth of our children's experience–and how to trust, love, and ultimately to let go.
A special event book signing will be held prior to the main session from 7:00-7:20 p.m. in the McAneny Theater Lobby. Please save the date, April 10, and watch for an email on March 6 at 10:00 a.m. with a link to reserve your tickets. This event is expected to have a high attendance.
