Congratulations to the Princeton Day School Chess team, who competed at the 2018 National Elementary (K-6) Championship in Nashville, Tennessee, on May 11 through May 13. Chess teacher Bonnie Waitzkin reported, "Our K-1 Under 500 rated team of Ethan Fede, Sloane Schwendinger, Arav Munjal, Akshay Pillai and Aditya Pillai was fourth team, and Ethan Fede tied for third place with 6 out of 7 wins."
In addition, PDS chess players Gio Juarez, Elijah Morris, Elias Nicozisis and Anya Jha placed 7th team in the K-3 Blitz tournament held Thursday evening. Ms. Waitzkin explained, "Blitz is chess played with only five minutes on the clock. Competitors play two games, one with white and one with black pieces at each of the six rounds."
This exciting news is on the heels of seventh grade chess player Winston Ni being named National Champion at the National Junior High Championship (K-8) in Atlanta, Georgia in April, winning all games in the K-8 championship section. Way to go!
