Sustainable Sites

  • LEED Sustainable Sites gives credit for protecting natural habitat, keeping open spaces, carefully handling rainwater, light pollution, and reducing heat island effects (above average temperature created by buildings, pavement, and human activity).

Site Assessment Review of soils, climate, vegetation, water, and animal life
Protect or Restore Habitats Preservation of 40% green vegetation; native vegetation above 30% of total sq. footage
Open Space 25% of all outdoor space is dedicated to vegetation
Rainwater Management Manage rainwater runoff
Light Pollution Reduction Dimmable lights, reduced outdoor up lighting so as not to interfere with the nocturnal life on campus.
