Imagine the Possibilities

Imagine the Possibilities (ITP) is an annual school-wide program made possible through the John D. Wallace, Jr. ’78 Memorial Guest Artist Series Fund that brings authors, illustrators, and poets to Princeton Day School to work directly with students across disciplines and grade levels.

ITP began in 1996 with the simple idea of having an artist spend the day on campus and visit classes in each division. Today, the program has doubled in size and scope, welcoming renowned artists, poets, writers and illustrators to campus each year to spend two full days engaging in division assembly presentations, classroom workshops and small group Q&A sessions. With thoughtful selection and deep study of each artist's body of work, faculty work together to plan and implement lessons within the curriculum that allow students to engage in the artists’ works in thought-provoking and innovative ways. Recent ITP presenters include the 22nd Poet Laureate of The United States Tracy K. Smith, Philosopher, scholar and activist Dr. Cornel West P’18, Caldecott Award-winning illustrator Melissa Sweet and Newbery Award-winning author and illustrator Grace Lin.

About Joshua

"From its inception, the Imagine the Possibilities Program has influenced PDS students and their teachers to delve into literature and art that they may not have had the opportunity to experience had the authors and artists not made a visit to PDS. The benefit of our participation in the program is immeasurable."
