Senior Spotlights: Caitlin Lee, Tazee Mahjied, Benjamin Soos, Chad Sprague, Annabel Thomas

This spring, we recognize and applaud our seniors for their courage, resilience, vision and spirit of camaraderie as they reflect on their time at PDS and share words of wisdom for those who will follow in their footsteps.

Here are some final senior spotlights from our Class of 2020:

Caitlin Lee, Panther for 12 years

A turning point at PDS:

The Fourth Grade operetta took me out of my comfort zone in the best way possible. I'm not a theater person, but being on stage alongside my classmates turned out to be one of the highlights of my time at PDS.

A favorite PDS memory:

Going sledding in the pit.

A message for future PDS seniors:

Live in the moment—it's the best way to spend your last year here. You never know when it might end, and you don't get to repeat it.

Grateful for:

The caring and supportive teachers and community

Tazee Mahjied, Panther for 14 years

A turning point at PDS:

A turning point I had at PDS was probably in 8th Grade when I gave my Focus Speech. it was the 1st time I gave a speech in front of such a large crowd and I was anxious/nervous to do it. But by the end of it my peers gave me positive response, which made me feel appreciated.

A favorite PDS memory:

Planting the bulb flowers in front of PDS when I was in Lower School (an autumn tradition for LS)

A message for future PDS seniors:

Be open to new experiences, and cherish the memories you’re going to make with your friends during senior year.

Grateful for:

I am grateful for all the teachers that have helped through my PDS journey, and grateful for my advisor, Dr. Monroe, for helping throughout my four years of high school.

Benjamin Soos, Panther for 8 years

A turning point at PDS:

A turning point for me was during freshman year when I started taking band much more seriously. Now, playing instruments and music in general has become such a huge part of my life and is something I am very passionate about still pursuing in the future.

A favorite PDS memory:

My favorite PDS memory was in 6th Grade during Mr. Riley's Humanities class. A little while into the school year we had something called a "Mead Hall" where we aligned the desks like one big table and everybody brought food and drinks as we read Beowulf.

A message for future PDS seniors:

For any future seniors reading this, I would advise to approach the college process in a way that is comfortable to you. Do not let others push and shove you around onto their own timeline or schedule, since that will only make the process ten times more stressful than it should be.

Grateful for:

From PDS, I am most grateful for the willingness that teachers have to connect with and help you. This is something I valued so much over the years and I can only hope that teachers will be as willing to connect with their students in college. I am also grateful for the amazing group of friends that I was able to make here that I think will last a lifetime.

Chad Sprague, Panther for 6 years

A turning point at PDS:

Learning how to properly open doors in the upper gym

A favorite PDS memory:

Senior year homecoming

A message for future PDS seniors:

Don’t take second semester for granted.

Grateful for:

All the people I’ve met and the memories I’ve been a part of

Annabel Thomas, Panther for 13 years

A turning point at PDS:

Although coming back to school this year after going away to a semester school was a hard transition, it made me appreciate PDS even more than I ever have. Coming out of that experience caused me to form a lot of new friendships during my senior year, which is why it was my favorite year yet.

A favorite PDS memory:

Bringing baby goats into my 2nd Grade classroom for star of the week, and late-night Wawa runs with my hockey team

A message for future PDS seniors:

You should try as many new things as you possibly can. Even if it's your last year in school, it's never too late to learn something new about yourself or about the world around you.

Grateful for:

  • The girls ice hockey team
  • The ceramics studio
  • The Lower School playground
  • The countless opportunities I've been able to take advantage of
