Gathering in the Campus Center after nearly two years of outdoor gatherings, the PDS faculty and staff excitedly greeted one another, and the School, with anticipation for a great year ahead.
Head of School Paul Stellato welcomed new and returning faculty and staff to campus with words of gratitude and reflection. He spoke about the incredible effort made by every member of the School community to ensure that the PDS campus remained a safe and inclusive environment and introduced the 2021-2022 school year’s campus-wide theme: belonging.
As explained by the CMDT team, the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts made by various working groups across the School has informed the decision to create a theme that may guide the community in establishing what PDS has always stood for: every student, faculty, and staff member belongs here. That sense of belonging carried each activity, discussion, and thoughtful workshop that took place during the Opening Days meetings. Head of School Paul Stellato stated, “The faculty and staff enjoyed a rousing, emotional homecoming, gathering in person for the first time since February 2020. We accomplished a great deal in preparation for the coming year and renewed our commitment to one another and the school we love. We are ready to go!”
The ’21-’22 school year will bring unique challenges, but as was witnessed through the community building activities and the garden party that capped off the Opening Days meetings – those challenges will bring the PDS community closer in the knowledge that we are stronger together.
