Boys Basketball Primed for Postseason Run

The Boys Varsity Basketball team is closing out a strong season with some exciting post season play. They are now competing in the NJISAA Prep B State Tournament as well as the Mercer County Tournament.

Head Coach Doug Davis is ready for the upcoming contests and says the team is, too. "Our guys have worked hard and competed all year. They are all excited about the great opportunities we have ahead of us," Davis declared.

Mercer County Tournament Semi-Final Is Next

After dominating Lawrence High in last night’s February 19 first-round MCT game, the eighth-seeded Panthers advanced to the quarterfinals. On the way to their 57-41 victory, Junior Ethan Garita '21 scored 18 points, while Hampton Sanders '23 had 13 points and four-year Varsity stalwart Jomar Meekins '20 added nine for Princeton Day School.

The Panthers will face off against top-seeded Hightstown High this Friday, February 21, at 7pm in a semi-final contest.

Playing against Newark Academy in the Prep B Tournament quarter-final on February 8, the second-seeded Panthers notched a decisive win to start their Prep B championship run in strong style. In their final pre-tournament game, the team cruised to victory over Pennsauken Technical School, but the real celebration was Senior Night. All five seniors started: Jaylin Champion-Adams, Lucas Green, Tazee Mahjied, Jomar Meekins and Alan Norcott.

"It is a special group; they are a bunch of good guys," Coach Davis told longtime Town Topics sports reporter Bill Alden. "To see them all starting and having them out here as captains was really good. It is something they will all remember the rest of their lives."

In their Prep B Tournament semi-final game last Friday, February 14, the second-seeded Panthers soundly defeated third-seeded Wardlaw-Hartridge 55-39. Among the highlights: senior guard Jaylin Champion-Adams scored the 1,000th point of his PDS basketball career. You can read Alden's game recap in the Town Topics sports article here
