Princeton Day School is proud to announce the establishment of The Suarez Music Scholarship, a fund specifically designed to support a student who has exhibited extraordinary musical passion and talent. It has been made possible through the generous support of Suzanne Suarez and her son, Christopher Suarez ’17, whose love of music began at a very early age and was further developed at PDS. The scholarship is in memory of Suzanne’s husband and Chris’s father, Tom Suarez, and Chris’s grandparents, all of whom received tremendous joy from attending PDS Lower School and Middle School concerts in which Chris participated. Head of School Paul Stellato stated, “This gift to Princeton Day School’s financial aid endowment will have an enduring impact on future students as it also honors the Suarez family and their deep devotion to our school.”
Recently, Mrs. Suarez shared about the family experiences that inspired The Suarez Music Scholarship Fund.
“PDS not only fostered Chris’s passion for music, it was a place of treasured, special moments that Tom and I shared with my mother, Elizabeth Grebowich, and Tom’s parents, John and Catherine Suarez. There are so many wonderful memories of all of us gathering together in McAneny Theater for concerts. Tom's father insisted on attending even after mobility became challenging for him; both Tom's mother and mine so looked forward to every concert date and saved every program. Tom and I loved seeing how overjoyed and enchanted Chris’s grandparents were to watch Chris and all of the other students perform at PDS Players Circle and seasonal concerts,” Mrs. Suarez shared.
“Tom was always a giver. With his family at the center of his life, he also spent 45 years devoted to his accounting firm, where he was the partner in charge of a group he referred to as his family of 1,200. He also served on boards and councils for many local nonprofit and philanthropic organizations. Tom dedicated so much of his life toward the greater good and, for the last few years, he and I had talked about what we could do to give back to Princeton Day School," she explained.
"Tom was interested in a music fund as a way to honor those experiences with Chris’s grandparents. Therefore, it was especially important to Chris and me to provide an endowed financial assistance fund in Tom’s name, allowing generations of children with a passion for music, who otherwise would not have the opportunity, to benefit from the School’s excellent music programs and student experience,” Mrs. Suarez continued.
“If The Suarez Music Scholarship Fund changes even one life, it’s worth it. It’s so meaningful to both of us. This is the very least we could do for all the joy that was brought to our family through the PDS music programs,” she concluded.
