After a successful college soccer career at Northeastern University (Division I) and Stockton University (Division III), where he helped lead the Ospreys to an NCAA tournament appearance in 2010, Coach Thomsen followed his love for the sport and transitioned into coaching.
Coach Thomsen has experience coaching from the youth level through the collegiate programs, specializing in player and coaching development. Since 2017, Coach Thomsen has served as the Technical Director and Operations Manager for the Next Level Soccer Academy (NLSA). His coaching career includes most recently serving as Head Women's Soccer Coach for the U20/U23 women's Washington Crossing FC team since 2016. He has also been Assistant Men's Soccer Coach at The College of New Jersey, 2016-2018, and U13 Boys Head Coach for New Jersey Youth Soccer, 2013-2016.
At NLSA, Coach Thomsen has emphasized player development, working directly with all club players through team training, technical training, technical and tactical curricula and player evaluations, while serving as the head coach to multiple girls soccer teams. With Washington Crossing FC, he also gears the structure of the training program to maximize player potential heading into their upcoming collegiate seasons.
Coach Thomsen is looking forward to bringing his skills sets to PDS. "I took on this exciting challenge to continue building a program with a winning culture that everyone wants to be a part of, to provide a path for players to achieve their soccer goals in high school and beyond, and to deepen players' life lessons through the discipline of working individually and as a team to master this sport we love," Coach Thomsen shared.
His expertise with program development and as a coach informs his approach to building on the strengths of the athletes. “We will work to perform in a way that plays to the strengths of our boys and in doing so they will strive to be technically excellent, tactically proficient and mentally strong and athletes of high character," he noted.
"We are excited to bring a coach with a wealth of knowledge and passion like Brian Thomsen into the Panther Athletics family," said PDS Athletic Director Katie Fay. "With his emphasis on teaching the game and his coaching vision, we are confident that Coach Thomsen will build on the culture of excellence that has defined the PDS Boys Soccer program," she added.
“I cannot express enough the amount of excitement and passion that I feel about heading the Princeton Day School varsity boys soccer program. My vision for this program is to move it forward into a new era while continuing to enhance excellence in culture, leadership, work ethic and success on and off the field. I am grateful to have the support of PDS and look forward to representing the School, the players, and the community in the best way possible," Coach Thomsen concluded.
