Welcome to Princeton Day School!

I hope you are as excited as we are to be shepherds for this next stage in your child’s educational journey. While we have pivoted temporarily this spring to remote learning, I am even more proud of our exceptional faculty and more sure than ever that one of the most striking qualities of our School is our unwavering dedication to the whole child.

As a PreK-12th Grade school, we are committed to providing a cohesive program that constantly reminds our students that learning is a life-long journey exponentially enhanced by their curiosity and joy for learning. Our learners thrive on the process of exploring the world around them, making meaning of what they find, and discovering new talents and passions along the way. PDS is wholly dedicated to creating a daily experience in which children learn to look at themselves with proud self-awareness and at others with love and empathy.

The years from PreK through Grade 4 are filled with remarkable changes, physically, intellectually and socially. Childhood development moves from 'learning to read' to 'reading to learn' in only a few short years. Students' grasp and memory of facts, and their zeal for completing algorithms correctly with confidence becomes significantly more powerful as they learn that math is about patterns, problem solving and manipulating concepts. Students experience authentic learning experiences as they get their hands dirty exploring outdoors, engage in science experiments, make music and create artistic masterpieces in two- and three dimensions across a variety of visual arts mediums. They help inform, perform for and applaud their classmates in the classroom and at assemblies. As whole classes and in small groups, at work and at play, children learn to collaborate, negotiate and communicate. With the careful guidance of faculty who care as deeply about their teaching craft as they do each child, Lower School students at PDS are encouraged to set goals, overcome challenges, embrace difficulties and set new heights to reach.

Each and every PDS student holds a unique and invaluable presence in both our academic and our social communities. With open arms and great anticipation, we welcome your child to join us in the laughter, camaraderie and exuberance that define the Lower School at PDS.

I am thrilled that you and your child will be joining the PDS family!
