Lower School Online Learning Plan

We want to keep our PDS community connected! Send us photos, brief videos and reflections that we can share on our PDS digital platforms about Panthers Online learning HERE!

A note about technology:

  • Please review the Acceptable Use policy and technology guidelines in your PDS Handbook.
  • If your child is using an iPad you already have at home, please contact Carol Olson, LS Technology Coordinator at colson@pds.org regarding questions about apps that have been loaded.
  • Please check the status page for updates regarding the status of Schoology, Seesaw and other school technology platforms.
  • Contact help@pds.org if you have technology access issues not related to issues that providers such as Schoology and Seesaw are experiencing.

Class Assignments and Instructions

  • Classroom teachers will send a weekly schedule by 6:00pm on Sunday evening to all families.
  • Each school day by 8:00am, lessons and activities will be uploaded on Seesaw for Grades PreK-3 and Schoology for Grade 4.

Teacher expectations

  • Classroom teachers are conducting initial check-ins with each family in the week prior to the launch of Panthers Online Learning Plan .
  • While remote learning is underway, teachers will be conducting periodic check-ins.
  • Teachers are expected to be available during school day hours and can be reached through email or their PDS phone number and extension, which provides a voicemail message directly to the teacher's email inbox.

Student expectations

Students are expected to complete assignments provided by the teacher. If they are not able to complete assignments, we ask that families contact the classroom teacher to discuss adjustments as necessary.

Daily lessons

  • We will continue to follow a 7-day schedule.
  • In addition to creating weekly schedules for families, teachers will provide daily checklists for students to keep track of their tasks.
  • Students should expect to spend the amount of time on each lesson that the teacher provides on the daily schedule of classes for each child's grade. If you have questions about the amount of time your child is spending on lessons, please contact the appropriate teacher.
  • The total time Lower School students spend each day on lessons is expected to average between 2-3 hours per day,  although the amount of time may vary somewhat from day to day and grade to grade.
  • Lesson format and asynchronous (learning is delivered as online instruction and assignments, and classes are not occurring with the class members at the same time) and may include:
    • Instructional videos
    • Reading
    • Math games and practice
    • Phonics or spelling work
    • Science experiments
    • Journal writing
    • Other activities
  • Some teachers may hold some live small-group sessions for book group discussions or math group work. Live sessions will take place through the Google Meet application.
  • The Google Meet app has been downloaded on all school-issued iPads. Students who are using a home device will need to download this app. Please contact Carol Olson if you have questions about the app.

Lower School Library Resources

The librarians have prepared LibGuides of PDS library resources available to all PDS students, which are continuously updated. The link for the Lower School Library Guide is: pds library access. If you have questions about the LS LibGuide or any items mentioned there, please reach out to Lower School Librarian Deb Koehler at dkoehler@pds.org.
