Third Grade Class Learns About Guatemala Through Interactive Experience

This week in the Lower School, Margie Gibson and her 3rd grade class, along with LS Technology Coordinator Carol Olson, were able to participate in a zoom conversation to learn about Guatemala, specifically about the water crisis and plans to alleviate the problem in the village of Sacbochal. Mrs. Gibson said, "Our students 'saw' the water system being built and spoke with the team leaders for the project who were on site." Also participating in this conversation were students from a school in Georgia. Mrs. Gibson also noted, "This is only the first step in our 3rd graders becoming responsible global citizens. To deepen our understanding of the world's most precious resource, 3rd graders are reading One Well: The Story of Water on Earth by Rochelle Strauss." This interactive experience was made possible through America Kids Learning (AKL), a non-profit, environmental education organization, connecting classrooms worldwide focusing on the global water crisis and fostering global citizenship.
