PDS Chess Team Takes First Place at Tournament

Chess teacher Bonnie Waitzkin reported that one hundred players from thirty schools competed on Saturday, October 7 at the Princeton Day School monthly chess tournament. The Novice II team of Mihir Karande '28, Gio Juarez '28, and Anya Jha '28 took the first place team plaque. Anya won all her games to take clear first place. Adrien Cristian '25 took third place in the Open section for players rated over 800. In Reserve, PDS was the second team with Isaac Kusminsky '27 and Dhruv Nair '27, behind the Chessmasters of Delaware who came in force with 20 players. In Novice I, the team of Yalong Zhang '28, Shaan Srinivas '26, William Broeker '28, Elias Nicozisis '28, Harkiran Sandhu '27, Adya Jha '24 and Enrico Acunto '28 was second to the Chessmasters of Delaware. In K-1, PDS players Ethan Fede '29, Jay Srinivas '29, and Sloane Schwendinger '29 were the first place team. Congratulations to our chess players!
