On Saturday, September 30, a group of Upper School students had the opportunity to take a field trip to the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and the Museum of the City of New York, both located in Harlem, in honor of LatinX Heritage Month. Upper School teachers Anthony McKinley and Michelle Simonds, who are both faculty advisors to Princeton Day School's Black and LatinX affinity group, BLSU, chaperoned the trip which included a the train ride into the city; visits to the Schomburg and the Museum of the City of New York; and lunch in Spanish Harlem, before returning to Princeton. As Mr. McKinley noted, "The BLSU has wanted to organize a trip for years, and we felt that this would be an excellent way to celebrate LatinX Heritage Month!" For further reference, here is information on the Schomburg exhibit and the MCNY exhibit.
