As havens for research and reading, problem solving and creating, collaboration and independent work, the libraries form a vital link to the classroom to prepare students for the digital world of today and tomorrow.
 

The Role of the Library

In an increasingly digital and global world, the libraries at Princeton Day School are vital as they offer the latest in technology and services to meet the learning needs of our community. In partnership with the technology department, the PDS libraries serve as extended divisional classrooms, offering current resources, technology, space for independent and collaborative work, and remote access through our virtual collections.

With digital e-books and e-subscriptions, a print collection of about 58,000 sources, and the availability of the latest technology including iPads, 3-D printers, and state of the art projection tools, the libraries at PDS support learning in a wide array of formats.

Each library serves as the information center for its division. Embedded in the spirit of inquiry and collaboration, the newly developed K – 12 research curriculum assures students become savvy, informed and ethical users of information and technology.

Beginning in the Lower School, students will practice finding, using, evaluating and creating with information. As they mature through each division, students hone these skills in more sophisticated ways to eventually allow for a seamless transition to college research, and the information rich global community.

The Role of the Librarian

Our librarians are reading advisors, information specialists, and collaborative instructors. They serve as partners with teachers to extend the classroom experience, and offer collaborative learning experiences at all levels. They work closely with classroom teachers and the technology department to nurture student research, reading and personal learning needs across the divisions.
